Low Cost Spay/Neuter
AnimalKind was formed in 2003 to reduce pet overpopulation through targeted spay and neuter, with an emphasis on pets belonging to low-income families, large breed dogs and free-roaming cats. We screen applicants for financial need, and refer qualified applicants to close-by veterinarians who are under contract to provide sterilization surgery at reduced rates. Pet owners pay what they can, AnimalKind pays the rest. Subsided surgeries are provided based on financial need, to pet owners who otherwise could not afford to have their pet fixed.
St. Joseph Animal Control and Rescue is partnered with Animal Kind and local Veterinarians to provide these services. The copay will vary based on income and is a minimum of $20, unless otherwise approved. The remainder of the costs is covered by the Animal Kind program and made possible by participating veterinarians that offer these discounted rates to the program. Please contact Aubrey Silvey, the Humane Educator at the animal shelter, at 816-271-5363 to fill out an application by phone or stop by the shelter during normal business hours. Please be prepared to show proof of income.
