MITZI AND CLARK
Clark was adopted May 8, 2005 after I lost my dachshund Fritz at the age of 16. My daughter insisted that Clark needed a playmate after I lost Lady, my Shih Tzu, in May 2006 at the age of 17. When Mitzi became available for adoption, she came home with us in May 2007. Both have been great little companions to me and each other. They are good little watchdogs, play together well and are very robust little ones. Mitzi is the house "boss". They also keep Chilly, my chinchilla, on her toes too. I enjoy both of them immensely.

LULU
Here is our story: Approximately one year ago, our adopted Australian Shepherd mix dog passed away from old age ailments (he was 15 years old). Casey, our other adopted dog, a 12 year-old Chow-Shepherd, was depressed after losing her life-long companion, so we adopted Wiley, a 5 month-old Pyrenees mix puppy. Wiley is a wonderful boy, but Casey soon began exhibiting signs of old age, including arthritis and stiffness. Even though we have her on medication, which has helped some, she is declining fast and just doesn't have the energy, or desire, to play with Wiley. So we then found ourselves searching the area shelters for a companion for Wiley. Our primary concern was that the dog be of gentle temperament, as we have a new baby granddaughter who we hope to have visiting us often, and we also have a variety of cats who, over the years, have adopted us (in fact, it is THEIR house, and we are simply the live-in domestic help -- but that's another story). It is very important that any new animal introduced into our home be approved by "The Cats".
I have always felt that a bloodhound or bloodhound mix would be a good fit for us. So I was very excited when I found Lulu listed on Pet Finder. When I first met her, she kept her tail tucked between her trembling back legs. She had come to the shelter from a puppy mill operation where she had apparently spent the first five years of her life in a pen having multiple litters of puppies, and this was probably the first time ever out of her pen. I fell in love with her instantly. When I first brought her home, she was not house trained, had no idea how to climb the four steps up our deck to our front door, or how to run and play. I am happy to report that, after less than three weeks, her tail wags constantly now, she is completely house trained, and plays happily with Wiley (who by the way, is simply thrilled to have a play-mate). Even the cats accept her, although they constantly feel the need to show her that they rule the house by eating and drinking out of her bowls in front of her, while she patiently waits for them to finish.
Lulu is such a sweet and gentle soul, and we feel so blessed to have her in our lives!

SCOOTER
My name Scooter and I was adopted from the St. Joseph Animal Shelter and I just want to tell you about my home life style. I am living with my new family and they are great to be around, I just can't say enough good things about them. It has been ten months I have been living here and the very first thing I did when I arrived home is go jump upon the sofa in the sun room and just gaze out the windows to the outside. What a sight to see, all the birds, butterflies, fire flies, moles, grasshoppers, well you get the idea. I have neighbors that also love me, I visit them once in a while too.
I think this picture of myself is one of the best ones, but my master doesn't think so since I am in the wash basin, however, the misses will just about do anything I want, she is a real push over!
Thanks to all with the Friends of the Animal Shelter for all your giving when I needed it most.

MUFFY
Our patience paid off when we were able to bring home a Shih Tzu puppy from the
Animal Shelter. He was one of many rescued from a home in St. Joseph and
has added a tremendous amount of joy to our life. The selection was easy
for us- the puppy chose us!! The adoption process was simple and the staff
was generous in their advice on making the transition easier on the puppy and
even provided us with a pet care kit. Being able to have all of our pet's
medical questions answered from our vet when we picked him up at their office
was another bonus. Our new addition, Muffy, has made our home and family
complete.
